Lannevesi in Central Finland combines the lakeshore at Sahanranta with crafts and an unusual memorial at Hernesalmi Mill. Sahanranta and Summasjärvi

Sahanranta is a shared lakeside recreation area near the village centre. The swimming beach has a jetty, a changing hut and an outdoor toilet. Before swimming, check the water conditions, accessibility and seasonal use. The island-rich Summasjärvi is a reference point for boating and fishing trips from here. This does not mean that boat hire is available or that fishing is generally permitted. Check the specific offer, any required permits and a safe route separately.

A fire is traditionally lit beside a lean-to shelter at Sahanranta at Midsummer. This describes a local tradition, not a guaranteed date every year. If you are planning to visit for the celebration, it is a good idea to check for a current announcement.

Art at Hernesalmi Mill

The Tarmo Manni memorial stands by a rapids next to Hernesalmi Mill. It is Kain Tapper’s work “Itkevä kivi” (“Weeping Stone”), created in 2000. From the Jyväskylä–Uurainen–Saarijärvi road, Kiimasjärventie leads to Napulanpolku; from there, a further route of about one kilometre is described. Check the trail conditions before setting out. In summer, the mill operates as a private café and restaurant. This information does not indicate year-round opening or free access to the grounds.

Crafts, events and winter

Palsanpuron Paja makes jewellery, knives, tools and other items by hand. Arrange any visit or purchase around the actual opening hours. Local recurring events include Sampola’s summer events; check the specific dates at the time.

In winter, Lannevesi maintains a cross-country ski trail network when there is enough snow and ice. The trails start near Lannevesi School. This condition is important: the fact that a winter network is described does not mean that a trail will be groomed on the day of your visit or that ice conditions are safe.
