Ingå combines a town centre with cultural discoveries and experiences spread across the municipality and into the archipelago. The main attractions include Ingå Church and, on Prästgårdsberget, a lookout tower completed in 2026. Nature trails, undeveloped stretches of coast and island destinations with different amenities can be found throughout the municipality of Ingå.

Ingå at a glance

  • Ingå Church stands in the centre of the town and is dedicated to Saint Nicholas.
  • The north wall of the church features the 16th-century mural Dödsdansen.
  • The lookout tower on Prästgårdsberget offers views over Ingå kyrkby and Kyrkfjärden.
  • The nature trail in Västankvarn has circular routes of 1.75 and 3.2 kilometres.
  • The Kopparnäs-Störsviken recreational area has 15 kilometres of undeveloped coastline.

Church, museum and historic sites

Ingå Church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of seafarers. The rare 16th-century mural Dödsdansen on its north wall depicts the course of the Black Death. Visitors interested in the connection between the town and its history will find a specific subject here: a named artwork with a clearly described theme, not just a view of the church’s architecture.

The municipality’s cultural offerings also include the local heritage museum. It displays more than 20 historic buildings, most of which were built through community effort. The buildings and objects come from different parts of Ingå. The focus is therefore not only on individual objects, but also on the different places from which the collections were assembled.

The Fagervik ironworks can be explored on foot. At the museum, visitors can learn more about the history of the ironworks and the manor. On Porsö, a former coastal fort, decommissioned camouflaged guns, fire-control towers and bunkers recall a military past. Some bunkers can be entered; conditions on site may change.

Coastal landscapes and waterways

The 15-kilometre stretch of undeveloped coastline in the Kopparnäs-Störsviken recreational area offers space for walking, running and cycling. A birdwatching tower is provided for observing migratory birds. The area thus combines exercise along the shore with a special view of bird migration, without requiring a longer circular route.

The shallow strait between Porsö and Ryssklobben offers a different kind of water experience. It has a sandy bottom and is suitable for swimming and paddling, but is not navigable by large boats. It was formerly known as Porsöklobben. This distinction is important when planning: the strait offers shallow water for certain activities, not a passage for larger boats.

The island destinations also have different focuses. At the northern end of Stora Halsö, there is a jetty, buoys and mooring rings. The island also has a fire pit, a dry toilet and a self-service sauna. Facilities may change. Stora Fagerö is easy to land on and has services and numerous campsites.

Nature trails and views

Opened in 2025, the nature trail in Västankvarn has two circular routes: 1.75 and 3.2 kilometres. Both pass through old-growth forest, a hazel grove, marshland and wetland, and by the Kalbergshyllorna rock formation. The shorter loop covers less distance and the longer one more, so you can choose the length of your walk based on the stated distance without inferring a walking time or difficulty level.

Prästgårdsberget is located in the middle of the village. Completed in summer 2026, the lookout tower offers views over Ingå kyrkby and Kyrkfjärden. The same hill also has an exercise staircase leading uphill: it is 104 metres long, takes a winding route and has several landings with benches. It is suitable for both training and Sunday strolls. Here, views and exercise are part of the same area, while the trails in Västankvarn offer a different, nature-focused option.

Further into the municipality, at the southern tip of the island of Orslandet in Ingå, lies the Gölisnäs recreational area. Archipelago forest, sheltered bays, coastal cliffs and small paths through hilly terrain shape the landscape. Several jetties, fire pits, two saunas and overnight accommodation complement the natural area. Facilities are subject to maintenance and seasonal changes.

Kayaking and guided fishing trips in the marine landscape are other possible activities in the Ingå archipelago.

Guided fishing trips last four to seven hours. They depart from Ingå harbour, Barösund, Kopparnäs or the customer’s jetty; availability and departure points may change. The trip duration helps you plan to spend a larger part of the day on this activity. Those who prefer to stay on land can find several stables in the municipality that offer riding lessons and horseback rides through the landscape.
