Fishing history and culture in the municipality

At the Bosund Boat, Fishing and Hunting Museum, traditional farm boats sit alongside fishing equipment, hunting gear and other objects from Ostrobothnia’s maritime heritage. The collection highlights different aspects of fishing and coastal life. The Bjärgas Museum in Holm offers another glimpse into everyday life in the past: visitors can see miniature buildings from the 1930s, a village shop from the 1950s, toys, textiles and a herb garden. Special exhibitions and a gift shop add to the experience; current opening arrangements may change.

Larsmo’s wooden church is also an important part of the municipality’s cultural heritage. Completed in 1787, it was designed by Jacob Rijf. Together with the Marieholm vicarage and the old group of buildings on Kvarnbacken, it forms a distinctive cultural landscape. An old stone barn on Kvarnbacken has also been restored and is used for gatherings and exhibitions in the summer.

A more contemporary touch can be found in Larsmo Square: Simon Gripenberg’s sculpture Perca navicula was inaugurated there in the summer of 2020. The perch represents nature, while the Larsmo boat represents culture. Bringing both motifs together in one sculpture creates a striking connection between maritime ways of life and the place itself. On the island of Öuran (Örarna), an old fishing village at the outermost edge of the Larsmo Archipelago offers a glimpse into its history.

Archipelago scenery and activities throughout the year

The recreational area at Inre Bergskär offers views of the coastal landscape, as well as a barbecue area and a wind shelter. It is located near Larsmo’s fishing harbour. Köpmanholmen also has a designated public recreational area, while Olofsborg on Olasören offers its own accommodation option in the archipelago. Free overnight stays are possible there; as arrangements may change, this option should not be treated as guaranteed accommodation.

The leisure activities described vary with the seasons. In summer, activities include boating and visiting sandy beaches in the outer archipelago. In winter, they include walks or skiing on the ice, as well as ice fishing. Weather and ice conditions vary, so ice activities in particular should be planned with current conditions in mind. Several landing places and fishing huts in the Larsmo Archipelago are maintained by the Archipelago Council; individual facilities may change.

Activities and places to visit in Holm and Eugmo

The Larsmo Sports Park in Holm offers a range of ways to stay active. Its adventure playground has balancing, climbing and zip-line activities. Other facilities include a disc golf course, completed in autumn 2022, and a skate and pump track below Cronhjelmskolan. Since November 2024, the park has also had an outdoor fitness machine for a full-body workout. The facilities offer different kinds of activities, so you can enjoy them individually rather than plan around a particular daily schedule.

Two nature trail entrances are located opposite the Sports Park car park: one for the Holm Nature Trail and one for the Larsmo Nature Trail. The Larsmo Trail is a separate, longer route. It is 44 kilometres long, passes through several villages and runs by lakes and streams, with rest areas along the way. Trail conditions and infrastructure may change. If you would prefer to choose a more manageable standalone activity, you can treat the Sports Park facilities and hiking options as separate parts of your stay.

Tyynelä Elf Village in Eugmo welcomes visitors in July and December; group bookings are also possible outside these periods. For individual visits, the seasonal opening times are therefore important, while groups have an additional booking option. The site is on Västerbyvägen in Eugmo, Larsmo, and should be planned as a separate destination within the municipality.

Köpmanholmen and choosing the right accommodation

Köpmanholmen’s recreational area brings together several facilities: a restaurant, sauna, bathing beach, landing places, a conference room and an observation tower. The combined café and restaurant is open from late June to mid-August; this seasonal period may change. Private bookings at the café and restaurant are possible, but availability may also vary. According to the arrangements described, the island can be reached free of charge by the m/s Wilma taxi boat; rowing boats are also available free of charge. Transport and usage arrangements may change.
